On December 7, 2024, the University of the Philippines Open University’s (UPOU) Campus Development and Management Office (CDMO) successfully coordinated services and preparations for the university’s 28th Commencement Exercises, ensuring a smooth and memorable experience for graduates.
Proper leadership and coordination within the team, with UP units, and with suppliers have played a crucial role in this success.
In preparation for the event, several measures were put in place to ensure the comfort and well-being of attendees. To maintain cleanliness across the campus, plastic bins and trash bags have been provided in every building and section, promoting waste management and proper segregation by providing three (3) trash bins for recyclable, biodegradable, and non-biodegradable waste per section. Additionally, all restrooms have been provided with tissues and handwashing soap, ensuring hygiene standards are met. Drinking water, portable toilets, and fans were also distributed to the venues for added comfort. Tents have been installed to offer students and guests a place to rest while doing their academic errands and during the event. Generator sets are on standby to ensure the event runs smoothly in case of power outages.
Campus beautification efforts have been prioritized to enhance the experience and ensure the commencement exercises are memorable. The stage has been decorated with plants, lights, and fountains, while posts around the campus are embellished with Christmas lights, creating a festive vibe.
For public safety, the campus was closed starting at 1 p.m. on December 5, 2024. Security personnel have been assigned to each venue and gate to ensure proper management of their respective areas.
UPOU officials, faculty, and staff who lived far from the campus stayed at the UPOU Academic Residences. Sixty-one guests were accommodated before, during, and after the event. The success of this year’s preparations by the CDMO for UPOU’s 28th Commencement Exercises reflects their commitment to providing quality services and achieving operational excellence.
